#GIRLBOSS

girl-boss

Give me a pink book cover and I’m there.  Give me a book with a pink cover that talks about leading a fashionable life, going after what you want and the art of magical thinking, well I’m all over that in a heartbeat.

I picked up a copy of #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso on a Friday afternoon and by Sunday morning, I had read it from cover to cover and underlined many passages in yellow highlighter.

Needless to say, a woman doesn’t get to be the CEO, creative director of a hundred million dollar company at the tender age of thirty without putting in some elbow grease into the mix. I particularly enjoyed her breezy tone, her witty banter throughout, mixed in with relevant quotes. It’s written as if she’s talking to all her BFFs.

I particularly enjoyed the chapters about the importance of managing your own money, ( i.e. money looks better in the bank than on your feet. Yikes! Although I hate to admit it, she’s right..) the importance of positive thinking ( I’m a firm believer in meditation and visualization and can confirm that it really, really works…) and most of all, the timeless message about going after what you really want. Her message is in line with that famous quote by author Mary Oliver: ‘Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
